When Is Coastal Georgia’s Hurricane Season?
The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on Sunday, June 1, 2025 and continues through November 30, 2025.
GEMA’s recent press release states: “NOAA’s National Hurricane Center predicts a 60% chance of an above-normal season. This indicates that the level of tropical activity in the Atlantic this hurricane season is likely to be above average, but not what was expected for last season at this point last year.”
Know Your Evacuation Zones and Routes
Familiarize yourself with your local evacuation zone and routes before a storm is on the way. Generally the state will declare a state of emergency followed by mandatory or voluntary evacuations. With that being said, there is *usually* a few days or even a week of build up before a storm. And actually, best case scenario is the higher ups overestimate the impacts and you over prepare, but knowing your evacuation zone and route ahead of time is the first step in planning!

Don’t wait for local stores to be sold out of everything – prepare ahead of time while prices are lower and all items are well stocked. You can even order many of these items on amazon. And if you have kids, this is a great project for them to help you with!
Have enough supplies for at least 72 hours, including:
- Water (1 gallon per person per day)
- Non-perishable food
- Flashlights and batteries
- Charger banks
- First aid kit
- Important documents in a waterproof bag
- Medications and pet supplies
- Sandbags and sand
- Generator and gas
- Paper products for eating – if you don’t have water you don’t want dishes piling up
To make it easy, I’ve put together an Amazon Hurricane Prep List with recommended items to help your family stay prepared. Click the link above to shop or one of the photos below!

REMINDER – if you are on well water and power goes out, your well will no longer work. Fill your bathtubs the evening before to have extra water for flushing toilets. And if you’re able, you can always install a hand pump shallow well to have access to water for toilets and animals. You can watch our video of the installation here:
