2020. Times are weird, right?! We originally got invited to a wedding to be held in May, but with Covid-19, the Bride and Groom unfortunately had to reschedule. They set their re-scheduled date for this past weekend (August) and because it was one of my good friends from college we decided to attend. The wedding was held at The Carl House in Auburn, GA which if you haven’t been, it’s a beautiful Historic Home that makes for the perfect wedding.
The ceremony was held outside in open air with extra seating so that guests could socially distance. The reception was held inside with doors wide open for proper ventilation and masks were given at the doors. Although wearing masks was not required, the venue and staff were taking all precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the guests. Plus, there were probably around 60-ish guests as opposed to the 100+ that probably would have been in attendance pre-covid.
I say all that to say I felt extremely safe attending the wedding and I was very thankful that I could be in attendance to celebrate one of the most important days in my dear friends life. While I’m not encouraging large group gatherings or telling you to attend them, I’m just simply sharing my personal experience so that you might have some insight on what protocols were taken to make a wedding happen during coronavirus.
While this was a short trip (like 24 hours), I still wanted to share what we did while in town because we got to go to 2 new breweries and y’all know that’s our jam while traveling!
On our way to the wedding we decided to stop in Downtown Monroe at a Southern Brewing Company. First, we had no idea DT Monroe was as cute as it was. I grew up right down the road in Grayson and Monroe wasn’t much of anything when I was there. We only had about 30-minutes before the wedding so it was just a quick stop in the brewery but I’d love to go back and explore the rest of Downtown. Southern Brewing Company is actually a brewery born in Athens, Ga with their second location in Monroe. I got a Peppermint Mocha Porter and it was amazing. Actually one of my favorite Porters I’ve had. If you’re close to Monroe, I highly recommend stopping in here for a beer and exploring the rest of DT!
The morning after the wedding we headed out to Suwanee Town Center Park which was one of our favorite spots before we moved down to Brunswick! Honestly, so nostalgic being back there. The park was having their usual Saturday Farmer’s Market so we browsed through that then hit up Brown Bag Deli for lunch. My favorite thing to get there is the California Club on Ciabatta so I got that and my sister got the Rajun Cajun and we we half and half… best decision ever! If you’ve never been to Suwanee Town Center, there’s tons of shopping + restaurants as well as a park with a town green and sidewalks for walking/biking/etc.
After lunch we walked across the street to Suwanee’s newest brewery, StillFire Brewing. Since Patrick is a FireFighter/EMT and this brewery is in an old Fire Station, it has been on our list since it opened. This brewery was amazing! It was very new, clean, and had tons of seating inside and outside. Outside they also had cornhole, a playground for kids and much more which makes it super family-friendly! Patrick and I got a flight to share and I tried their Watermelon Seltzer + Milk Stout. Both were so great. I love that they brew their own seltzers! Such a fun and delicious brewery! 10/10 recommend for date night, family day or even a work meeting 🙂
And that concludes our short 24-hour wedding trip! We love finding new spots in smaller towns so I hope y’all enjoy reading about our new finds and our favorites at each place.
