Preparing Your Heart in Scripture for the New Year Ahead
Before setting goals or plans, Scripture invites us to begin with reflection and trust.
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12
Take time to reflect on the year behind you—where joy lived, where growth was hard, and where God was faithful.
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” — Isaiah 43:18–19
Release what no longer serves you spiritually or emotionally. We are blessed to serve a God who carries our burdens. Lay your worries, cares, concerns and bag at the foot of our gracious and merciful father.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” — Proverbs 16:3
Instead of resolutions, consider choosing a word, a scripture, or a simple rhythm for the year ahead. I found this video, Goals That Glorify God | A Faith-First Approach To Goal Setting, extremely helpful and encouraging! I’ll be reevaluating the rhythm of our home in various ways including household chores, our homeschool routine, my business routine our family habits and ways to feel the seasons within our home. Here are some reflection questions from The Lifegiving Home (linked below) that I will use as a guide:

- What daily rhythms will help me accomplish what needs to be done and enhance our relationships?
- What chores need to be done each day? Who will do them, and how will I make sure they are done?
- Am I doing something that doesn’t need to be done [how can I simplify]?
- What daily and weekly rituals will bring pleasure and mark important areas in which I can invest my moments? [saturday night pizza, Sunday afternoon tea times, going out for dinner as a family, etc]

Rather than offering rigid systems, it encourages intentional living through simple traditions, hospitality, and grace-filled rhythms. It’s especially meaningful if your desire for the New Year is to create a home that feels peaceful, welcoming, and rooted in what truly matters.
